Claire Austin Soprano
 


Claire is an Australian born lyrical coloratura soprano currently studying a Masters of Opera at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria. She studies voice with Prof. Bernd Valentin and is in the Opera Class of director Karoline Gruber and conductor Kai Röhrig . During her Masters she performed the title role in Monteverdi’s “L’incoronazine di Poppea”, Adele in Johann Strauss II's “Die Fledermaus” and Soeur Constance in Poulenc’s “Dialogues des Carmelites”. In May 2015 she performed the role of Giulia Fabbri in “Limonen aus Sizilien” working closely with the composer Manfred Trojahn on the direction. This year she is working on the roles of Susanna and Barbarina in Mozart's 'Le nozze di Figaro'. Her other operatic roles include Erste Knabe (Die Zauberflote - Mozart), 4th Spirit (Cendrillon - Massenet) and La Prima Cercatrica (Suor Angelica - Puccini). Her interest in theatre developed at a young age through musical theatre where she has performed the role of 'Young Jenny’ in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Aspects of Love”, Tuptim in “The King and I” and Christine in “The Phantom of the Opera”.
Claire has been awarded for the Mozarteum Ordentliches Scholarship for academic achievement in the major performance study. Claire completed her Bachelor of Music (Performance) in 2012 with Honours at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University Australia, under the tutelage of Joseph Ward OBE. Her research included, "British Documentary Film as an investigation into Britten and Auden's Early Collaborations" She was a recipient of the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence for each year of her study.
